This site is supposedly a medium for the free exchange of ideas, right?

I figure it is about time that we have an intelligent discussion about an issue that truly matters to the general public. Therefore I am posing this question:

-If a girl, aged 19, has an unexpected child with her boyfriend of 1 year, should she get an abortion?

    Details:

-Neither she nor her boyfriend have gone to college although they both plan to.

-They have jobs, but they are both at the minimum wage level

-They both have some religion, but it does not play a crucial part in either of their lives.

-If worst comes to worst, they are both prepared to get married and take care of the child by whatever means they can.

-This question is purely hypothetical and the answers given WILL NOT directly affect anyone’s decision in this matter, so feel free to argue whichever side you believe is the correct decision.

I ask this question, not on moral grounds, but on the grounds of realism. How would making a decision either way affect their lives, and are those effects worth the cost?

I have to state now, that while religion does play a factor in this argument, I am not asking for responses that rely on religious or moral ideals in order to make a point. I am sure that will not deter many people from making those arguments, and many people will probably resort to hate speech; it is a deeply divisive issue. Yet this is precisely why I am asking. It is vital importance that this issue come to a conclusion that, as far as is possible, satisfies all parties involved.

I want this debate to be an intelligent exchange, unlike so many of the discussions here, so I am begging everyone who answers to give answers that are well thought out and to back them up with proof that does not rely on faith. Once again, not to say that faith is not important because it is, but solely to keep the argument founded in the context of two peoples lives and how they might change.

I look forward to reading the responses.
Thank you all for taking the time to write (for the most part) well thought out answers to this question. You all took the time to read the whole question and answer based on the merits of the situation and it’s effects; and I appreciate that. Some of the answers below are for and some are against, but all of them are based on legitimate proof and make coherent arguments.

It gives me a considerable amount of hope for the world if ordinary citizens who have never met each other can successfully participate in this kind of exchange.

I may or may not be letting some of you down, but I hope you will understand if I don’t pick a “best answer”; but there really isn’t one to be had on this issue and for me to arbitrarily give that title to someone is to usurp everyone’s right to decide for themselves which argument is the most compelling.

Once again thank you for your responses and keep up the good wor

I’m a pisces male. And I am an extemely loyal faithful person. NEVER cheated on anyone I have ever been in a relationship with. I’ve been with both woman and men. Before I came out. I also believe in monogamy, He is the first guy I have dated. And once we were together, I never looked at anyone in that way. He’s an aqaurious. And the first I have ever dated. First guy and aqaurious. I know I’m the typical pisces, i day dream, and live in a world where everything is all magic and sun beams, and nothing goes wrong. So what I am asking is: Is it really that way? Does Aqaurious ever cheat? We’ve been in a relationship for over a year now. I asked him to move in with me, and he did. Two months ago. He told me that hes a littler nervous because now we see eachother everyday, all day. from before when we’d see eachother everyday, half of the day. He said that he’d marry me if it was legal. And also added me to his bank account, and gave him all codes/passwords to his computer etc. He keeps talking about wanting to buy a house under BOTH our names. I don’t know though. For my birthday he lied to me. He told me him and his then roommate were going to have friends over. and that she invited him along, and he said yes. Even though we had made plans a month in advanced. I found out in June what really happened. Him and his roommate and all of her gay friends went gay club hopping. Where they drank, and they bought him a lap dance with a stripper. And that for his birthday, a similiar event happened. We planed jan first to hang out on his birthday, jan 29th. I even requested that day off from work, as did he. The day before, his best friend, whose a girl called him up and told him she wanted to take him to a gay bar for his birthday, and he said sure. He called me and all he told me was that him and his friend were going to hang out at her place for his birthday and he didn’t know what to say when she asked him. I said that he couldn’t said another time, and that he should hang out with me, like we promised. I had resturant reservations. He didn’t know that though. Again, in june i found out that really they went to a gay bar and danced and drank themselves silly. He told me that he felt bad and thats why he finally told me. Anyway, I’m just wondering if aqaurious are faithful? moving into an apartment is one thing. buying a house together is a total different story. Any help? or advice?
