Here at Corporate Canine, there’s one thing we love above all else: caffeine.
We love dogs.
Even as I’m sitting here writing this I’ve got a cup of coffee, and my two pups (Zozo and Rosa) are laying next to my desk. Before we dive into the benefits of implementing a Corporate Canine Dog@Work program, lets take a minute to discuss the human/dog relationship.
You’re walking out of your office building after a 10 hour day, You’re exhausted, short-tempered and hangry (look it up, it’s a real thing). You’ve spent more time in meetings than you have actually getting work done. You’re still annoyed by “that” co-worker who thinks they know a LOT more than they actually do. You’re trying to decide if you will make dinner at home, or stop at Chipotle on the way. After a day like today you chose Chipotle out of convenience, and we don’t judge you for that.
You’ve gotten your food, you’re a few minutes away from home, and you begin to think “I wonder what Shiloh has been up to all day.” Shiloh is your 10 year-old beagle who’s been your best friend since you were 21.
You walk into the house and there she is. Her tail is wagging, she’s smiling from ear to ear, and even if only for a moment, she looks like a puppy again. Her excitement to see you reminds you that life is bigger than your 9 to 5 (6,7,8). After a solid few minutes of playing on the floor with your four-legged best friend, you start to feel human again. You vow to stop leaving her alone for so many hours everyday.
You may not have Shiloh at home, but every dog owner knows what this experience feels like. According to Barkpost, along with countless other publications, spending just 15 to 30 minutes with your dog can help you feel more calm and relaxed, reducing stress and increasing happiness. There is an actual science to this: playing with your dog increases your brains level of dopamine and serotonin, both of which are neurotransmitters associated with pleasure and tranquility
We at Corporate Canine recognize this as both a benefit and an opportunity: a benefit to enjoy at home, and a huge opportunity to bring into the workplace.
